My quest to stay true

With my admittance into the IFB world, I have been granted access to thousands of post/forums/and other blogs. Today when I logged on, something in particular caught my eye. The post was titled "Why I stopped reading fashion blogs", as a fashion blogger this interested me because I want to know what my audience is looking for, so I read on. The writer, Grechen, was speaking of these 'super-blogs' that every fashion blogger knows about and feels the intense pressure to subscribe to and read every word of. And how this has become more of a hassle rather than a creative way of showing others what you like and what's fashionable to you. It has rather turned into a giant PR monster. The 'super-bloggers' keeping consistent only in their posts about the latest after-party they were invited to, or the thousands of freebies companies are sending them to blog about. It seems they have lost their touch with whatever is was that really got them into blogging. This inspired me as I couldn't agree more with what Grechen was saying. When I first opened my blog I subscribed to the biggest and most popular blogs in hopes of gaining some insight on how they do what they do. When in reality, me and every other blogger are reading the same thing, so no one's getting an 'edge' if that's even what you want to call it. But here we are, faithfully checking and rechecking their blogroll, slowly morphing the world of fashion blogging into perfectly posed, sky-high heeled, cigarette smoking, blog drones. And I refuse. I want my blog to be helpful, witty and refreshing. With a creative take on make-up, fashion, food and culture. I want my writing to inspire people to know that they are not dreaming, this is real life, and they can do whatever their beautiful brains can think of, whatever makes them happy and inspired. I want a blog my readers can directly interact with, where we can talk about the posts and they can provide insight to me and I to them. Not some photo diary on how to be fashionable in today's society with no true substance. I'm inspired to work harder and creating a better experience for myself and my readers. So, kudos to you, Grechen. Your words have inspired, as I always hope mine do.
PS: I recently read a beautiful quote by Charles Dickens 'An idea, like a ghost, must be spoken to a little before it will reveal itself'. Keep this in mind, always pursue your dreams, and don't let people tell you that yours thoughts are invaluable, because that's the great thing about them, thoughts, you can keep them for yourself, or share them; but either way, they remain forever yours and have the infinite potential of success.
